Consultancy in Internal medicine: Gastroenterology and Hepatology combined with a clinical
A clinical position as consultant of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Gastrounit, Medical Section at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.
The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special focus on Lifestyle Associated Liver Diseases at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
With this new position the Gastrounit, Medical Section, Amager and Hvidovre Hospital wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.
It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
Organisation, The Gastrounit at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital covers treatment and research of patients suffering from diseases in the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas and with need of surgery.
The department is one of the largest units in Denmark with a local referral population of more than 530.000 inhabitants. The Gastrounit is divided into a Medical and Surgical Section. Apart from receiving patients from the local uptake area, the Medical Section has specialized functions within advanced liver diseases, complicated acute and chronic pancreatitis, advanced endoscopic procedures, inflammatory bowel disease with complications, patients with motility disturbances and complicated reflux disease.
The Medical Section has a large outpatient clinic and a-day hospital having in total 27.000 visits yearly.
The Endoscopy Unit performs all kinds of endoscopies, such as ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, colonoscopy, gastroscopy with in total 12.000 procedures per year.
The Medical Section has 37 beds, organized according to subspeciality into a wing taking care of acute patients (shared with the surgical section), a semi-intensive section (also together with the surgeons), a 5-day care section (together with the surgical section), a section for liver diseases, pancreatic diseases and one for inflammatory bowel diseases.
Presently, the Medical Section has 20 consultants, one of whom is head of the Unit and one professor in relation to the University of Copenhagen. Furthermore, 2-3 speciality registries and 8 MD’ s in training
within the speciality. The department has young doctors on duty 24 hours and specialists on call.
The department has within the hospital an extensive collaboration with the Center for Functional and Diagnostic Imaging and Research, departments of cardiology and endocrinology. Moreover, there is an established collaboration over years with the University of Copenhagen, a number of other national and European Universities and private research companies.
The Gastrounit has in total about 100 doctors, 350 nurses and 45 administrative employers. The department houses in total 146 in-patients. Yearly 15000 hospitalizations, more than 50.000 out-patient visits, 6000 operations and 12.000 endoscopies are carried out per year.
Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
Focus areas of department are:
• Chronic liver diseases
• Pancreatic diseases
• Inflammatory bowel diseases
• Endoscopy
The applicant clinical functions will mainly be related to treatment of patients with liver diseases in the semi-intensive section (mainly patients with liver diseases) or the section for patients with liver diseases and the outpatient clinic. Dependent on endoscopic skills, there will also be possibilities to perform a variety if endoscopies.
Research and teaching
The Medical Section has a long and strong research history with approximately 50 publications per year, mainly in international peer reviewed journals. We have at the moment 9 PhD students and 2 post-docs.
The department teaches medical students in several levels of their education to become medical doctors.
With the new position as consultant in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and clinical professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with special focus on Lifestyle Associated Liver Diseases the Gastrounit, Medical Section wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research and teaching, especially within this area.
Qualifications
Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Applicants must document a solid background and ongoing clinical activity within the field.
Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship.
Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Amager and Hvidovre Hospital.
Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.
As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Gastrounit, Medical Section. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a fulltime secretary position from the Gastrounit.
Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of Gastrounit, Medical Section, Amager and Hvidovre Hospital.
