Consultant or staff specialist in pulmonary diseases for Nykøbing F. Hospital.
If you are seeking new challenges and want to make a difference, then we are looking for a consultant/staff specialist in pulmonary diseases for the Department of Internal Medicine at Nykøbing Falster Hospital.
We are looking for an interested medical specialist who wants to work with general pulmonary medicine, principally ward rounds, but probably in the outpatient clinic once a week by agreement as well. It is possible to be a part of the back-up on-call team.
Qualifications:
The right candidate must have interest and skills regarding diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary patients with pulmonary deceases including following in both an outpatient and inpatient setting:
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including NIV treatment
- Pneumonia
- Lung cancer including palliative care (not bronchoscopy or chemotherapy)
- Benign and malignant pleural diseases
- Tuberculosis
- Interstitial lung disease (Lung fibrosis)
- Sarcoidosis
- Pneumoconiosis/Occupational lung diseases
- Unexplained cough
- Unexplained breathlessness
You have experience diagnosing and treating patients with internal medicine diseases in an inpatient setting.
You are interested in cooperation with specialist from other internal medicine specialties as well as to some degree on giving advice to specialist in intensive care and surgical department. Bronchoscopy skills and knowledge of sleep medicine are a plus but not a necessity.
Responsibility
The consultant must help ensure continued professional development, which is based largely on evidence and interdisciplinary skills, so that the department is always professionally and clinically in front.
You are also responsible for ensuring the best possible resource utilization and stimulation of coordinated medical and interdisciplinary within their own specialization - at the main and cross-sectoral level.
About the Pulmonary Medical Unit
The Pulmonary Medical Unit handles tasks at main function level for a large catchment area (150,000 residents) and has a high level of outpatient activity. We are continually trying to improve and bring in new treatment options.
The department has 20 beds (soon to be 29) and an outpatient clinic closely associated with the inpatient ward.
In the inpatient ward, we have NIV, percutaneous CO2 monitoring and mobile ultrasound equipment, and we also insert chest tubes. The outpatient clinic includes spirometry, pulmonary plethysmograph (body box), lung diffusion capacity measurement, mannitol, methacholine, NO measurement, etc.We perform bronchoscopies on intensive-care patients.
We have a visiting nurse function for providing oxygen therapy and NIV at home. We also diagnose, treat and track down the source of infection in TB patients.
At present, the department has three specialists in pulmonary medicine. The department is classified as a main function unit (HFE) in the continuing internal medicine training programme: pulmonary medicine.
We are part of a large department of internal medicine with excellent interdisciplinary cooperation. Besides pulmonary medicine, the following specialisations are represented: cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, nephrology and geriatrics.

- Medical illnesses (diseases in the heart, stomach, intestines, liver, lungs, hormones and metabolism, kidneys, blood clots or bleeding in the brain and age-related diseases)
- Conditions affecting women, pregnancy and childbirth (obstetric aid, maternity care, nuchal translucency and anomaly scans, as well as diseases of the reproductive organs)
- Diseases affecting children and young people (treatment of illnesses in 0 to 18-year-olds and in new-borns)
- Physiotherapy and occupational therapy (rehabilitation)
