Consultancy in Anaesthesiology combined with a clinical professorship in Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Pain Therapy and Peripheral Nerve Blocks

A clinical position as consultant of Anaesthesiology at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care at Nordsjællands Hospital, University of Copenhagen, is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Anaesthesiology with special focus on Perioperative Pain Therapy and Peripheral Nerve Blocks at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Nordsjællands Hospital, wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

About the hospital and department

Nordsjællands Hospital

Nordsjællands Hospital is one of four emergency admission hospitals serving the Capital Region of Denmark. The hospital comprises Nordsjællands Hospital - Hillerød, Nordsjællands Hospital - Frederikssund og Nordsjællands Hospital - Sundhedshuset Helsingør and has 3,600 employees. Annually, there are 350,000 outpatient visits, 75,000 admissions, 45,000 operations and 4,100 births.

 

Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care

The Department provides anaesthesia to 18,000 patients each year.  The department has operating theatres for Abdominal, Orthopaedic, Gynaecologic and Obstetric, and Oto-rhino-laryngologic surgery. The department also provides anaesthesia for CT and MRI scanning, DC conversion and ECT.

The ICU have 700 admissions each year. The department partakes in the educations of medical students and nursing students, special education of nurses at the operating theatres, the ICU and PACU and in the education of specialists in anaesthesiology. There are 65 doctors, one Head of Department, 40 consultants and 25 doctors in training in the department. The total number of employees is approximately 385.

The department is being led by a leadership team comprised of the medical Head of Department and the Head Nurse. The professor consultant will refer to the leadership team.

 

Research

The Department's research Unit is chaired by the research officer who will refer to the professor. 3 PhD students are currently affiliated. Special priority is clinical research in anaesthesia/peri-operative therapy, including in particular regional anaesthesia and respiratory tract management as well as intensive therapy, especially sepsis/septic shock and acute renal failure including biomarkers for acute renal failure.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in anaesthesiology.

 

Conditions

To be considered the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Nordsjællands Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of the Department of Anaestesiology and Intensive Care. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Anaestesiology and Intensive Care. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the Department of Anaestesiology and Intensive Care, Nordsjællands Hospital.
